Our hope and prayer is that the mothers in our lives will be celebrated as they deserve to be.  The Bible is filled with examples of good and not so good mothers.  As I think about my two favorite mama’s today, I reflect on how their lives reflect scripture.  Let’s talk about that…

In I Samuel chapters 1 & 2 we read two of the great prayers of the Bible.  It is not from a prophet or a king, but rather a lady who longs to be a mother.  Unless the Lord would intervene, that longing would never be living.  Hannah was a praying mama.  She prayed for her child, Samuel, before he was conceived and continued to pray as she gave him back to God for His service.  She did her part and then trusted the Lord to do His part.  I know two mothers who do the exact same thing.

It was not a rare occasion as a child at home to interrupt my Mama on her face in prayer, especially before the day was in full swing.  Mrs. Debra did her part by feeding, clothing, correcting, and most of all loving.  I remember a time when we were moving from one part of sweet home Alabama to another and were searching for a new home church.  My Mama made sure that the transition would not cause a lapse in Bible instruction.  She located workbooks and gave us ‘Sunday School’ assignments every week.  I remember one Sunday morning in the car as I was finishing my lesson that a complaint arose… I think it was my sister, but I’m sure she thinks it was me. It was made clear to us in no uncertain terms that our mama was going to make dead sure that we were going to learn from the Word in those in-between days and all the others as well so one day we would not lay out or fall out of church someday.   I am very thankful for that. I never heard my mama rail on my daddy or use slop jar language.  She is modest and a mediator.  She is grateful and a constant giver.  All I have ever seen her do is work past her physical energy, love far past the extraordinary, and live exclusively for her Lord. She has always been a lady, a lover of hospitality who laid down the law. She is a learner’s best friend, and the Lord’s best example in so many ways.  Happy Mother’s Day, Mama.

I never knew all that my Mama went through raising me and my sissy until I began the path of parenthood with Mrs. Angel.  We never knew love could be that strong.  We learned very quickly that it HAD to be that strong in order to retain our sanity through sleepless nights, fevered brows, and the horrific screaming aversions to the car seat that our eldest experienced [picture a 9 hour trip to Florida stretching to 13].  Through it all, the mother of my children, two in Georgia and one in heaven, has proven that she is much tougher than I am.  She works through pain, prays through uncertain days, and protects fiercely.  She teaches our girls what it means to be a good friend every day and a great wife and mother someday.  Lord willing, they will look back like me and think, “Wow, she really did know what she was talking about.” She, like Mary the mother of Jesus, ponders things in her heart and possesses a scary dose of discernment.  No monkey business gets by her.  Her gut-feelings soon reveal themselves as reality, so watch your step.  Angel is self-aware and constantly seeking to improve as a person, a child of God, wife and a Mommy.   Happy Mother’s Day, Chikadee!

God Bless the God-fearing mothers of the world!  Pray that those who need Christ will call on His name.  Their children need a saved mama.

Our hope and prayer is that the light of the Lord has been clearly seen by those around you.  If you go attend anything from a child’s sporting event to a workplace, or anything labelled ‘entertainment’, it will not take very long to recognize the darkness that a greatly disturbing number of people live in.  Do we ever stop and think that just as we are observing their darkness, they are observing our light? Or are they?  Let’s talk about that…

I was turned toward II Corinthians chapter 4 this week after listening to an RG Lee message titled, “Adorning the Doctrine of Christ”.  What the Holy Ghost began to show me was how this chapter is about focusing on what is unseen instead of what is seen.  Our key verse (18) gives us the perspective.  Think on it his way; the human organ of the epidermis, our skin, is what people see.  However, the most important organs of the body are unseen; the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas, bones.  All these unseen things affect the state of the outwardly seen things.  Healthy versus unhealthy eating will show up on the outside.  A baby growing on the inside of the mama will eventually be seen.  

We cannot fully expound this chapter today, but in almost every verse there is a word that notates things seen & unseen.  Words like seeing, hidden, manifestation, hid, blinded, shine out of darkness, outward man, and inward man.  What is it that we are exhorted to do?  Let people see the ministry of God within us, Manifest the truth, shine the light of the Lord out of darkness, and let the life of Jesus be made manifest in our body (v10).

I believe in brushing up and looking our best, but if the only adornment that is seen by the world is our church clothes, hair-do/haircut, shined shoes and ear-bobs, then we have missed it.  I Peter 3:3 tells us to let what is seen “not be that outward adorning” of our hair, jewelry, or fancy clothes, “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.‘

**And let me just hit this a minute…  What a tattoo (Leviticus 19:28) or a ton of cosmetic surgery, and a lightbulb tan tells the world around you is, “God did not do a good enough job when He created me, so I had to help the Almighty Creator out.  LOOK AT ME!” **

I encourage you to read II Corinthians 4 and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what is really Seen in your life.  Is the unseen light of the Gospel hidden within you ever seen to the world around you?  Because, the things which are not seen are eternal.  The beautiful things that the Lord puts inside are much more beautiful than the outside could ever be on its own.  Let them be seen.

Our hope and prayer is that you have thanked the Lord for life, if nothing else.  My heart has been wrenched to the extreme with the recent events that led to a government telling parents that they had no legal right or ability to attempt to save the life of their child. You might have also read of a mass grave found in a far part of the world where hundreds and even thousands of children were executed and buried in a mass grave as an ethnic religious cleansing.  Let’s see what the Bible has to say about that…

Satan has attempted to rob the world of a promised Messiah constantly.  He tried to wipe out a deliverer in Exodus when Pharaoh ordered the killing of every Hebrew son, but the devil failed and God delivered a deliverer.  The flames of Molech consumed the willingly sacrificed children of the Hebrews in I Kings 11, but God would deliver a remnant that would carry the bloodline of the Deliverer. In Matthew 2, Herod attempted to remove a royal rival in a prophesied King, but God delivered the Deliverer.

Jesus said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they ight have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 KJB).  Jesus had a great affinity for the life of children matched with the ability to sustain and restore that life.  Just ask the Nobleman of John 4, or Jairus in Mark 5, or even the widow whose son was on the way to the cemetery in Luke 7.  Jesus wanted and still wants children to have a chance at life.

As the survivor of one of the greatest government mandated massacres of children in history, He knows the horror of a world that reduces the unborn and now, even the born life of a child to be something not worth the effort.  Upon the altar of convenience and economy they trade the option to give every precious soul every opportunity possible to live.  America will duly deserve the corporate judgement of the Almighty for the millions of babies that have suffered at the hands of the abortionists.  But, I believe there is something that the cycle of Bible history tells us.  

Each one of these infanticide efforts was an attempt to kill the future of God’s creation.  But, what the devil could not do through the annals of time until today is to stop the deliverance of God from a Life Deliver!  Though our heart aches, and it should, and though we wonder what to do to stop the slaughter, and we should, we can look into uncertain days knowing that A Deliverer, who is the Way, the Truth, and The LIFE is COMING!  I believe He is coming soon.  “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come…But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” (II Timothy 3:1, 14)

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20

Our hope and prayer is that the Lord has steered you toward His path and away from pitfalls, traps and ultimate destruction.  With a heavy heart I must say, let’s talk about that…

Gates are designed to do one of two things; keep things out or keep things in.  A chicken coop, a pasture fence, a shark dive cage, or a corral all serve to keep valuable things which need protection on the inside and to keep bad things on the outside as much as possible.  A prison or a coon trap are designed to hold bad things ranging from the pesky to the prosecuted on the inside to protect those on the outside.  All of these examples have to have a way in or out.  A gate is essential for protection.

In Nehemiah chapter 3 we read about the new arrivals who join in a work with the current residents of Jerusalem in repairing and rebuilding all the walls and gates that surround what we know as the old city of Jerusalem.  There were actually three aspects of the boundary of protection around God’s holy city; walls, towers and gates.  In our reading we find that the building was taken on by teams from one gate to the next, to the next tower, to the next gate.  Various verses give us details about our focus of this study, the gates.  The walls and gates were built with beams, set up, and then locks and retaining bars were installed.  Notice in verse 1 in chapter three that Eliashib the high priest built the sheep gate and sanctified it and set it between two towers.

It is worth noting that everyone was involved in the work of building these protections.  The high priests, various families, merchants, doctors, Nethinims, Levites, local rulers, brethren and daughters (v12), all got into the work.  I should say, all except the nobles of the Tekoites (v5) who put not their necks to the work of their Lord.  They would be what us country boys would call a BLISTER, they’d show up after all the work was done!  Whenever the Bible mentions someone with a stiff neck it refers to pride and rebellion. The so-called nobles of Tekoa were prideful and not interested in walls, towers or gates.  What’s your point preacher?”  I am so glad you asked.  If you are too proud and stiff-necked to put up barriers in your life do not be surprised when destruction come.

Your gates are your eyes, your ears, your mouth and your nose.  Nose? Oh yes, watch out for too much of that sweet smelling perfume or cologne. Your walls are your clothes, lips and eyelids.  Your bars are teeth and as a last resort fingers.  Picture three little monkeys with hands over their eyes, ears and mouth.  Listen to what this preacher says!!  Kill your pride, bury it, pour concrete over the top of the hole and throw away your shovel.  For the sake of your Teams; you and the Holy Ghost, you and your family, you and your church, build some barriers to keep what is sacred, sanctified and so valuable inside and the tricks and traps of Satan outside.

I pray I don’t hear of another dear one who left the gates open and fell to the flouncing floozy that the devil floated in front of a family man.  As well, the silver tongued, suave, serpent in superman’s clothing who swoops in to steal someone’s wife and mother.  God Help US!

Our hope and prayer is that your purposeful witness had impacted those who are watching every move you make.  We often overlook the fact that every person we encounter makes an observation about us.  Whether it be a momentary walk by in a store or a co-worker we labor with every day.  Let’s talk about that…

Nehemiah chapter 2 takes us into the life of the king’s cupbearer.  He has received word from his home country that the escaped remnant is persecuted, the walls are torn down and the gates of Jerusalem have been burned.  In verse 1 through 8, the state of his brethren and homeland was tearing away at his very soul.  When Nehemiah approached the king with his cup Artaxerxes took note and commented that his captive servant was sad.   Nehemiah had never come into his presence with sadness on his face.  That shows that the cupbearer was a genuine person.  He did not force the brave face but bore the grief of his heart on his countenance.  When Artaxerxes questioned his faithful servant Nehemiah replied with an honest answer.  Honesty goes a long way with people.

The king had no reason to be sad over Nehemiah’s situation.  Jerusalem was his real estate holding not his home.  That king initiated a question of what he might be able to do to help.  It is of note that your King James Bible mentions that the king’s wife is seated beside him.  Ladies are generally more compassionate than men.  It may be that her hand slipped over to his and with a look and smile the king knew exactly what his queen was thinking.   It would appear that Nehemiah’s faithfulness had earned him favor in the king’s courts.  When the offer came from the king, the cupbearer bowed for a moment on inner prayer and without reservation he asked for a full ride back to Jerusalem with every letter of safe passage and supply for the work ahead “.  Done!  In verse 8 Nehemiah would credit all this favor, not to Artaxerxes or his wife, but it was all bestowed “according to the good hand of my God upon me”.

The point; Be A Good Employee.  Your boss might be lost.  The workplace is a tricky place today when you want to be a witness.  HR issues can arise for any circumstance, especially a harassment situation even if it is religious.  We must be gentle as lambs and wise as serpents.  So what do we do?  Be A Good Employee.  I have never called any lost person down at work for foul language but if they spend any time around me they seem to keep those words to themselves more often.  In fact other coworkers will give a little shush it up encouragement.  A fella I am trying to win right now has started calling me Rev and gets on to other employees when they start to spout off at the mouth around me.

Your employee ought to look at you and his other saved employees and hope that that the company can find more church going, Bible believing Christians as workers because they are faithful.  I really do not have a situation in mind but I am just minding the Lord.  I hope this helps.

Our hope and prayer is that though there is plenty wrong with the world, we have remembered to look at what is right with the Lord.  Let’s talk about that…

I have been thinking the last few days about a New Testament phrase from a very impactful person in the life of Jesus.  No, not the apostle Paul.  Although, one of my very favorite passages in Romans tells me that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us (5:8).  No, not John.  However wonderful the thought that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was with God and that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (Jn 1), that person and those words are not what the Holy Ghost has emblazoned in my soul.

Pilate, the polytheistic, pagan, politician who played a key role as one of the villains of the crucifixion of Christ, repeated a phrase for eternity.  In Luke 23 and John 18 & 19 we read that Pilate  had heard of the fame that had spread over this recent enemy of the Sanhedrin.  If we look in John 19:6 Pilate says “I find no fault in him” (Present Tense).  Jesus was brought to Pilate to perform the governmental messy task that the Pharisees did not wish to dirty their hands with.  On legal grounds, Pilate made this statement in John 18:38, “I find no fault in him at all.” (Perfect test) NONE!  Then, after spending several hours with the Savior of the world in Luke 23:14 Pilate said, “I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man…” (Progressive examination over time-Past tense).

I want to go on record today as testifying that in this moment of the present tense, I Find No Fault In Jesus Christ!  After spending some time with Him, asking Him questions, hearing His answers, listening to His words, seeing His truth manifested before my eyes, I Have Found No Fault In Jesus Christ!  Although, it is an easy task to find me guilty of a litany of lack and laxness in my life, no matter how anyone may examine, cross examine, fine tooth comb, put under a microscope, look through a telescope, dissect and rightly divide, I Find No Fault In Jesus Christ At ALL!

It is very easy to find fault in others.  The insecure and inwardly guilty are experts in that arena.  It is more difficult to come to terms with our own faults at times.  But, in all of eternity and creation there has never been any person who can put a valid fault to the account of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Praise God for a Perfect Savior!

Our hope and prayer is that this newsletter finds you enjoying the season of rebirth in this Spring-time.  In a world that appears to be dying a little more each day it is wonderful to know that the resurrection power that the Lord Jesus Christ gives His children can lift us above any circumstance we encounter.

Our Ministry goals seem to be strengthening with every passing month.  The top of our prayer list still consists of reaching the lost and calls for preaching appointments. We have several dates booked with the Old Time Preachers Quartet in the coming months.  If you have not been able to attend a service with the OTPQ, the name should tell you what to expect; 4 preachers singing and preaching as the Holy Ghost guides.  However, we still have some open Sundays that we are praying that the Lord will fill with preaching opportunities.

• June 3, 24 *We will be in Gadsden, AL 22 & 23 for a Gold City Reunion Concert

We are still forging ahead with the fundraiser to purchase new mattress pads for the Power Of 2 Youth camps led by our pastor, Mark Stroud and evangelist Duane Moore.  Scores of young people have been saved, called to missions, many young men have been called to preach, and the Lord has simply changed lives through the Power of 2 Camps.  Our evangelistic ministry is attempting to raise funds to purchase 350 replacement mattress pads (cost around $50 each). It looks like we have a storage container donated to store the mattresses, Praise the Lord. Help us pray for this effort and prayerfully consider an offering of your own.  Matthew 11:28
