MARCH 2018 NEWSLETTER

2018 is in full swing.  The God of heaven has overwhelmed us thus far!  January and February filled up to capacity and The Lord opened up avenues that we did not have on our radar yet.  Let’s look at what has happened, is happening, and what we are looking forward to this Spring and beyond.  

Our Ministry goals remain consistent to see souls saved and the church awakened with some new additional interests.  The top of our prayer list still consists of the bringing calls for preaching appointments. We added several dates in GA & TN that we are very thankful for.  We continue to pray for discernment regarding becoming involved in a Bible distribution effort and a possible mission trip by the end of the year.  As we wait upon the Lord we are striving to minister to others, prepare our written works for publication, and other outreach efforts we are preparing for.  

The most exciting thing that the Lord has brought to our doorstep in the past two months is the Riches From The Pages radio broadcast.  Long-Story-Short, through the providence of the Lord, we went on the air in January with WECO 940AM & 95.5FM every Monday at 8:30am which can be heard online at wecoradio.com anywhere in the world. But the Lord was not done there.  We got a call from Word Christian Broadcasting in west GA to go on the air weekly and by the supply of the Lord we have received support for the first month of airtime. AND THEN, after a conversation with a close pastor friend in central FL it looks like we are going on the air on an FM station south of Tampa. Pray for this effort and stay tuned for the upcoming Riches From The Pages radio broadcast updates on our website, evangelistadamborden.com.  We ask that you pray about becoming a supporter of this new facet of our ministry.  $100 will cover one month on one station. God has his hand on it and we are humbled to be used .

Another effort we are heading up currently is a fundraiser to purchase new mattress pads for the Power Of 2 Youth camps. Scores of young people have been saved, called to missions, many young men have been called to preach, and the Lord has simply changed lives through the Power of 2 Camps.  Our evangelistic ministry is attempting to raise funds to purchase 350 replacement mattress pads (cost around $50 each). It looks like we have a storage container donated to store the mattresses, Praise the Lord. Help us pray for success in this effort and prayerfully consider an offering of your own.

Our hope and prayer is that you have prayed for, and that the Lord has given you the spiritual discernment to identify people who are not true blue in their intentions regarding you.   Have you ever had a case where you shared many things in common with someone but a couple of issues and slight differences gave you concern?  Sometimes those seemingly insignificant differences can prove to be destructive and divisive.  Let’s talk about that…

In Ezra chapter 4 the first hiccup occurs for this remnant band of rebuilders.  Notice in verse 1 that the Word of God identifies a group of people as adversaries.  Bible historians identify these adversaries as Samaritans who had been brought to Judah as captives of an Assyrian king named Esarhaddon.  This king has gone down as the most powerful king that Assyria ever knew with territory that reached from into Egypt to Babylon and beyond.  He had three palaces, one of which was designed after King Solomon’s palace.  Dr. Ironside informs us that in II Kings 17 that this people added Jehovah into their varied worship by placing some of “the lowest of them” as priests who offered sacrifice in high places to appease this great and terrible God of the children of Israel.  So there is the history of these adversaries.  They had made a profession of a form of faith without owning the Lord as their sole savior.  And now they wanted to join and become a part of what was going on in the work in Jerusalem.

What’s the point, Preacher?  The point is that they were identified as adversaries and they proved themselves to be as such.  They desired to attach themselves to the work with reasoning that goes like, “We worship the same God. We are just like you except a little different.”  Sound familiar?  [You know, water and hydrogen peroxide are just one Oxygen molecule different… take yourself a big swig to see if a little difference makes enough difference.]  They wanted access and identity so they could infiltrate and entrench themselves in the work.  We saw what happened in this situation in various places in scripture.  The Children of Israel coming out of Egypt had “a mixed multitude” who were not believers that went out with them and brought idol worship along.  Jesus and the disciples had Judas. Now, the Lords remnant in Ezra had these polytheistic Samaritans who, with great jealousy, wanted to get in on the building project that was renovating Jerusalem.

Thank God that the eldest priests, the ones who had seen the glory of the original temple and the grievous consequences of mixing idol worship with God’s worship, did not allow these adversaries to join in the work of the house of God.  Well, that resolve by the men of God led to the adversaries revealing their true colors.  These adversaries did not express understanding or offer to be a blessing in any way possible but they hindered the work.  They began to “weaken the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building.”  They frustrated their purpose legally, by false accusation unto the authorities.  They tried through the reign of Cyrus with no avail until they could get to king Artaxerxes who heard their accusations as truth and stopped the work.  Those adversaries used “force and power“(v23-24) to stop the remnant.  Does that sound like someone who has the same belief, same convictions, same heart for God?

Our warning today is not to allow folks who are eager, eloquent, talented, wealthy, or willing just to come in and plug into the ministries of a church without being proven as trustworthy.  We have seen too many times in our day where a group of believers with a need of leadership or laypersons finds a person on their doorstep who has an ability that can fill that need and immediately allows access, which leads to influence, which becomes advantage, which develops allegiance, which leads to abominations becoming acceptable in the house of God.  Before anyone realizes what had happened, an adversary has become the authority.  That progression leads to the realization that things are so entangled that only near total destruction and rebuilding is the only way to stop it.  “It’s too late now” some will sadly say.

Our admonition:  Be very wary, extremely careful, use Godly discernment in who your church allows to join in the work.  Don’t go away saying that this preacher said we should not welcome sinners, but, rather that sinners must be truly saved before incorporated in the works of the body of a church.  There must be Holy Ghost discernment applied and Holy Ghost approval in who is doing the work of the church.

The good news is found in the following chapters.  The work resumed, the temple, the homes and the walls were built.  God’s work will never be defeated by the adversary.

Our hope and prayer is as you have looked into His Word you have seen a true reflection of who you are in light of Jesus Christ.  We all have tendencies that are innate, ingrained and incredibly frustrating to ourselves an others.  I was thinking about a few types of people that you might recognize.  This is going to be a little different so, let’s talk about that…

I want to walk a few people in front of you  that we will call the “Er’s” and you tell me if you recognize them.  Ready?

1) The Float-ers:  They just wander along and live just to see what happens (Proverbs 29:18). They have No Plan for the Future, No perception of past failures, and No Prospects for Family Success.  

2)  The Figure-ers:  They have all sorts of opinions on how to solve everyone’s problems.  They have it all figured out… but they do nothing worth a flip about it.  Let you mind drift back to Job’s pack of opinionated friends who were full of reasons but were no part of any solutions.

3)  The Fix-ers:  (Genesis 16)  The original Fixer couple was Abram and Sarai.  Sarai tried to fix things up for God and ended up giving her husband to another woman, Hagar, who ended up having a son, Ishmael.  Yes sir, that fixed it all right.  We are still trying to untangle that mess.  Some things are better left in the Lord’s hands.  He made all creation.  He is probably better at fixing everything in existence.

Fix-ers offer cheap imitations for real things in order to have what is convenient for them.  They might substitute Presents for Presence, Money for Meaning, Substitution for Substance.  For instance, they allow school to be the sole education that children receive and church to be their only spiritual foundation.  They substitute money for true wealth and wisdom, and charm for character and caring.  Negative Ned and Nancy choose Pessimism over Positivity and substitute Ingenuity for Intercession.

4) The Faith-ers:  These are true Believ-ers.  They are first cousins to Encourag-ers.   Their prayer is “Lord, I know you can.”  There are several sets of Faith-ers.

-Worri-ers:  “Lord, I know you can but I don’t know how or when, and I REALLY NEED to know that.” (Mark 9:24)

-Will-ers:  These “Er’s” have the faith that prays “If you Will, Lord, you can.” (Mark 1:40)

-Walk-ers:  These folks put feet on their faith. They pray, they believe, they trust, and then they walk on knowing God has a plan that He is working for the good. (II Kings 4:18-23)

5) Finish-ers:  A rare member of the “Er’s”, the finish-ers are looking ahead to the finish line.  They live today, prepare for tomorrow, and pray intentionally with the finish line in their sights.  They live for the good and benefit of the next generation, not for their current satisfaction.  They prepare to face temptation before it walks by.  Finish-ers understand that there is a prize to win and a place of judgement where all will give an account.  (II Timothy 2:7-8)

Which “Er” are you?  Something fun and educational might be to ask some people around you which “Er” you ere… uh, are.

Our hope and prayer is that this week you have known the Lord in the ups and downs that may have come your way.  You know, He is our consolation and our celebration.  Events that happen in our life mean different things to different people.  A child who gets her drivers permit has a different set of emotions than her parents have.  “I’m growing up” and “She’s growing up” have very different effects in the heart depending on who is saying those words.  Let’s talk about that…

As we continue in Ezra chapter 3, we begin looking from verse 4 and forward.  The altar was set up in the previous verses and the burnt-offering sacrifices had begun once again.  Those fires had been snuffed out seven decades prior.  The ordained feasts of the Israelites were once again consecrated and observed.  Things were headed back in the right direction.  The work was underway to prepare to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.  Looking at verses 8 through 9 we can read that the proper priests were in their place.  Things were headed back in the right direction.  In verse 10 the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord.  They sang, played instruments and put on their ‘Sunday best’ and praised the Lord the way David did way back when.  Things were headed back in the right direction.

Then something curious happened.  In verse 11 and 12 we can see two very opposite reactions to this monumental shift in the history of the Hebrew people.  Among the nearly 50,000 strong who freely returned as one man from Babylonian captivity were descendants of original children of the captivity who had never stepped foot in their homeland until now.  They had no memory of the Solomon’s original temple in all its grandeur.  They had never smelled the smoke of sacrifice nor seen the blood of atonement as it flowed for the covering of their sins.  The old songs of David were new to them.  Celebration for this new thing in their lives was ecstatic.  They broke out in corporate praise and sang, ‘giving thanks unto the Lord: for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever’ (Psalm 136).  ‘And all the people shouted with a great shout because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.  They were filled to overflowing with JOY!

Verse 12 shows a different, more melancholy emotion from many of the priests, the white haired ancient men, who had seen the first house, began to weep with a loud voice.  That verse goes on to say that many shouted aloud for joy.  Such a sweeping combination of emotions and expressions.  All were very genuine and none were contrived or habitual.  No one urged them to stand and clap or raise their hands or do anything from a man-delivered instruction.  It was the raw sight of the physical manifestation of what God had done for them.  He had delivered them, forgiven them, showed favor to them, and the fruits of their willing decision to seize the opportunity to rebuild the house of God was laying in the form of a foundation before their eyes.

Those ancient men must have had thoughts that I can relate to, such as, I wish we had done everything we could have to prevented this temple from being destroyed in the first place.  We could have done things differently and none of these precious loved ones would have never had to live through the captivity.  And then, I am so thankful that I lived long enough to see this.  This gives us hope for this joyful generation.  I can identify, can you?

That inaugural service was not silent and solemn.  It was exuberant and emotional with a mix of Joy and Mourning.  It was all in order and it was okay either way.  It created a noise that could be heard far away.  If the modern American liberal version of what is perceived as church headed back in the direction of the truth of scripture, unscripted services, worldly separation, worship urged by the Holy Ghost, and a work that reaches all people in all places, can you imagine with me how far the noise of that would be heard…  It makes me mourn for all that this generation has missed but joyful at the possibility that they might be shown the way back again.

Our hope and prayer is that the fine month of February has found you in full stride in 2018.  For the Borden Family it is proving to be a month filled with working, travelling, singing, and preaching.  In fact, only the last Sunday has not been booked yet.  That is exciting!  In other exciting news…

We now have another driver in the house.  Abby turned 15 years old on the 7th and aced her drivers permit test.  To quote Karen Peck & New River, “Pray Now”.  I am looking forward to training a full time chauffer.

January saw the launch of the Riches From the Pages radio broadcast ministry on WECO (wecoradio.com) in Wartburg, Tennessee.  We had been praying about a radio ministry and had honestly kind of conceded that the most we might have is a podcast that would live on our website (evangelistadamborden.com).  The Lord surprised us with an open door that no man could shut.  Now you can listen in East Tennessee to WECO AM or online at wecoradio.com at 8:30am on Mondays to our preaching broadcast.  We are very humbled at this answer to prayer and would like to thank brother Dustin Bonham with WECO for this time slot to preach the Word of God to more people than ever.  Tune in Monday mornings on your computer or smart phone if you are not in the WECO area.

That brings us to a new opportunity.  Some of you might remember that we were the featured evangelist of the month on the Word Christian Broadcasting network in West Georgia for the month of December.  Well, after seeing the news that we were going to be on WECO weekly, brother Scott Thomas, who works with WCB and is pastor of Pine Ridge Baptist church in Dallas, Georgia, reached out about adding the Riches from the Pages broadcast to their stations and online stream.  We believe the Lord is working, don’t you?  We would ask that you would prayerfully consider supporting this new radio opportunity.  For $25 per week we can be on WBC in either Dallas, Douglasville or Newnan as well as the online stream one day per week.  Pray that the Lord would provide the funds to support this broadcast.  If He directs your heart or maybe your church Sunday School class, youth group or missions ministry would like to be the one to send the Gospel over the airwaves on WBC or on a station in your area, contact me and we can expand this part of our ministry. We will be headed to Newnan, Georgia this month on the 9th, 10th and 11th at Westside BC with the Old Time Preachers Quartet (see Links page) to sing and preach.  Then on the 17th and 18th we will be with Pastor Clark Herring and Grace Baptist in Eatonton, Georgia for their Couples Banquet and all day Sunday. As we mentioned before, February 25th is our only open Sunday for the month so pray that the Lord will send us somewhere to be a blessing.  Other open dates coming up are March 11th and 25th, April 1st, 22nd and 29th.  On May 20th we will be back at Pine Ridge BC in Dallas, Georgia for the morning services and Harvest Baptist Tabernacle in Jonesboro with pastor Joe Arthur that evening.  Pray that the Lord would send the calls for the remaining open dates.

PRAY:

• For souls to be saved not just in the altar but in the every day world around us
• Provision of dependable transportation for the thousands of miles we will travel in 2018 Preaching, Teaching & Reaching
• The Power of 2 Camps Mattress Pad fundraiser effort (the Lord has already provided a free donated storage container)
• The right Bible distribution ministry to partner with
• The expansion of the Riches From the Pages radio broadcast ministry and launch of the online podcast
• Publication of devotional books that are nearing completion

We leave you with this today.  The Holy Ghost has planted my study in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah in these days.  Until we get other orders from headquarters, our burden in 2018 is to preach a word that the Lord can use to Rebuild the broken Church, the home, and the walls of protection, and  “as one man”  Return to a hunger for the Word, an obedience to His Will,  and a Worship that the Lord desires.  God is illuminating the riches in these pages and we ask that you pray that His Word will go forth as we continue in our efforts of Preaching, Teaching, and Reaching. Our hope and prayer  is that you have settled in your mind that you are going to go for Jesus, whatever and wherever that means.  Let’s talk about that as we look in Ezra chapters 1 through 3…

Today we are talking about the Will Go’s and the Won’t Go’s found in these Hebrews who had the option to leave captivity and go back to Jerusalem 

How many of the Who: (ch 2:64-70) 42,360 + Servants (7,337) + Singing Men & Women (200). [49,699].  All had either lived through the captivity or were descendants of those that had been taken. They were a Remnant. That’s a piece that has been torn or cut away from the complete fabric.  WARNING! Shouting moment.  The most beautiful quilts are made of remnants that are sewn together!  

Chapter 3 verse 1 says that the entire remnant “as one man” journeyed back to Jerusalem. The first order of the remnant that made the journey to Jerusalem was to build an altar and worship Jehovah God.   They were unified in Will: they wanted to do what God wanted; in Word: the Law of Moses, the scriptures; in Worship: true worship is Encouraged by the indwelt Holy Ghost, Embarrasses the flesh, and is the Entire Life of the worshipper, not a fleeting moment of a Sunday service.

Then there are those who we will identify as the Remainders. With the complete freedom and opportunity to walk away from captivity and the foreign land they were forced to live in, the Remainders would not go. We do recognize that at least some helped to fund the Journey and the work but would not go.  Queen Esther and uncle Mordecai remained for such a time as the Lord required, but without a solitary mention of God by name.

According to a math teacher friend of mine, the possible number of those who might have stayed behind could have been as high as 350,000 people. It is not out of bounds to conclude they had grown comfortable in captivity. They were content in carnality. They had no reference of what their original religion standards or scriptures. They had married themselves, literally, to their morally void masters.

This is my burden for the church of America today. Worldliness has crept in and taken the church hostage without firing a shot. The fear is that the captives have grown comfortable with the carnality worldly representation and would have no interest in returning to the original God ordained design.

My hope is that a Remnant might be willing to make the journey back. It is my burden. The question is are you a Will go or Won’t go?

Our hope and prayer is that God has or will show you unbelievable heavenly things today.  I want to share something with you that you simply may find unbelievable.  Let’s talk about that.

I do not have a specific Bible study for you today but I desire to try to convey the unbelievable services we had this weekend at the Wahoo Winter Teen Meeting.  According to counts that were taken, on Friday night and Saturday morning there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 to 1,200 teenagers, pastors, youth pastors, church workers and families that gathered, seeking what God might do, might say, who God might save.  You might not believe it so we took a picture.  That crowd of decently, modestly dressed teenagers was holding up King James Bibles after singing songs from the Church Hymnal that they knew by heart.  Brother Ricky Gravely was mounting the pulpit to deliver the message of the weekend from Daniel 1, “What the Prince of this World Wants.”  

“The Prince of this World wants New Ground that doesn’t belong to him, Nice Gold that belongs to God, the Next Generation of the best and brightest.  He want them in Babylon.  He wants to bribe them, and brainwash them.”  Ricky Gravely

My top three quotable quotes from brother Ricky; “I don’t care how saved you are, you are not devil proof”  “As much as God has His hand on you, the devil has his eye on you” “Your circumstances may cause you to live in Babylon, but Babylon does not have to live in you for one single day.”

You would not believe how powerful that message was unless you were there.  You would not believe the waves of teens that flooded the altar during all parts of the services.  You would not believe the worship that filled that tabernacle.  You wouldn’t believe that the crowd was transfixed in listening to old time, Bible preachers.  You would not believe the choir singing great gospel songs from memory…

I have to stop for now, but I want you to know that no matter how hard the enemy is trying to derail churches into thinking they have to get as far away from old time religion, old time worship, modesty, standards, the King James Bible, old time preaching… it still works.  You still might not believe it, but I do.

Our hope and prayer today is that the Lord has used you for His purpose this week. In reality, we are just empty vessels until He fills us. I wanted to share something special with you. My dad, Lloyd Borden, is A Missions Director for the Lookout Mountain Baptist Association and he sends out a newsletter every month to let folks know of progress, plans and shares something from the pages of God’s word. I wanted to give you an idea of where I get my penchant for writing. Let’s see what brother Lloyd has to say…

Earthen Vessels

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (2 Corinthians 4:7)”

This verse of scripture has long been a favorite of mine and I have tried over the years to give devotions from it, but have never been able to fully bring ot all the vast richness it contains. So please bear with me as I take a word by word approach to this precious verse.

1.  That’s us, Christians.  The Saved.  The Redeemed . Those who have had an experience of Grace.  Members of the family of God.  No one else.  Certainly not the lost world.

    HAVE.  We have.  We hold.  We possess.  It’s inside us.  We are engrained with.  It’s part of our being.  It’s contained.  We can’t lose it.  We’re eternally inseparable from it.

    THIS TREASURE.  Simply, it’s Christ in us, but it manifests its self in many ways to those around us.  It’s the anointing and presence of He, the Holy Spirit.  It’s light.  It’s peace.  It’s calmness in the midst of the storm.   It’s hope when no hope is in sight.  It’s love for the unlovable.  It’s concern for the hungry, the cold, and the fatherless.  It’s being a neighbor to a stranger who is ten thousand miles away.  It’s the gift of service. The gift of sharing the gospel.  It’s excellency. It’s power.  And it can’t be bought.  And it can’t be lost.  It’s an eternal gift.

    IN EARTHEN VESSELS.   When we were saved nothing about our mortal body changed.  It was dust and it still is.  You could say it was mud and it still is.  Nothing about us contributes to or is even vaguely in harmony with the goodness of God.  The TREASURE and the EARTHEN VESSELS don’t match.  It doesn’t make sense the two co-exist.  Why would anyone put anything so indefinitely good into something that is so bad?

    THAT THE EXCELLENCY OF THE POWER MAY BE OF GOD.  Those around us should surely know that the good that is in us, the treasure, had to come from God.  Our weakness, our sinfulness, our inability to raise our self from our lost state.  Producing the fruits of the Holy Spirit is far beyond our capabilities.  It has to be of Him.  The excellency, the power, the light, the joy.

    AND NOT OF US.  No…Never of us…just by His grace and mercy.

That’s my dad. I sure am thankful for him. He is just another vessel the Lord is using.

Ezra 1:1 “…that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled…”

Our hope and prayer is that the word of the Lord is being fulfilled in and by your life.  Today we strike out on a study that has been laid upon me.  I feel impressed by the Holy Ghost to set up camp in Ezra and Nehemiah until I receive other orders from headquarters.  Let’s begin to talk about that…

Ezra is one of the post captivity books.  The 70 year captivity of the Hebrew people was under Assyrian and Chaldean captors.  The captivity was due to the Israelites forgetting God, forsaking God and following after the sinful patterns of their pagan acquaintances.  Wicked kings brought wicked practices, influenced citizens to compromise, and hastened the hand of God to deliver them to the control of the carnal nations that they copied so closely.

Ezra is the beginning of the open door of release of the 70 years of captivity.  The first task that was stirred into the heart of the pagan idol worshipping king, Cyrus, was to build, rather, rebuild the temple in the Holy city of Jerusalem in the promised land of Israel.  The temple had been destroyed, the homes burned, the walls were pulled down and burned and tens of thousands of the Hebrew people had been taken from the city of Jerusalem and the countryside of Judah over three campaigns.

Why?  Because the people of God had ignored God’s word, made themselves look like, act like, live like, and marry themselves tothe world around them.  And God did not like it, endorse it, condone it, and in fact, punished His beloved chosen people because of it.  I believe that the church of America has reached a state of critical mass that is so close to every image of the surrounding carnal world, with very few exceptions, that we might scarcely avoid a coming time of judgement upon the church in our country.  Let us pray that the Lord will stay His hand in hope of a repentance among His people.

My burden in these scriptures for 2018, according to the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God (Rom 12:2), is to call out for the need to Rebuild the Church, Restore the Homes, Rebuild the Walls, Re-emphasize the Word, Revitalize the spirit-filled Worship, and Return the Church to a state free from the imitation of the worldly influences of the day. Pray that the Lord will make His word come alive and burden us, correct us, conform us unto His image, and instruct us unto righteousness in these last days.
